Homeward Bound’s President & CEO shares what’s ahead this summer and why Adventure Club matters.

Summer Is in Full Swing

Homeward Bound is in full swing as we transition from spring to summer. Gardens are being planted, trips up north are underway, and the zoo is open for business. HBI staff have been working hard to ensure that residents continue to enjoy many of life’s most important experiences.

The mild weather and seasonal transition from cool to warm temperatures make travel to and from day programs, supported work sites, and medical appointments much easier than during the winter months.

Investing in Better Care

In one home, we are piloting the use of innovative devices that communicate directly with our electronic medical record system and assist staff with collecting weights and vital signs. On another front, our summer exterior maintenance projects are in full swing across our homes. These improvements are helping restore shine to facades, entryways, and landscaping throughout our properties.

Strengthening Homes and Communities

Last fall, we installed Little Free Libraries in front of two homes and are preparing to add more in the near future. Volunteers continue to make meaningful connections through these and other projects, building relationships with both staff and residents.

This summer, we will celebrate the outstanding contributions of our team at our annual Employee Appreciation Dinner. Later in the season, we are excited to host our 30th Annual Golf Classic and Gala Celebration, a milestone event that will bring together supporters, partners, and friends of Homeward Bound.

As summer unfolds, we look forward to the opportunities it brings for growth, connection, and memorable experiences. With the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters, we hope this season will be one of our best yet for the people we serve.

Launching Adventure Club

Last but not least, this summer we’re launching Adventure Club. From zoo trips and resort getaways, to Camp, outdoor exploration, and outings close to home adventure club is all about making connections in the community, creating confidence and bringing about feelings of belonging. Partnerships are a big part of making adventure possible through Adventure Club.

Building a Community of Monthly Donors

This summer, we’re working to build a community of 250 monthly donors who believe everyone deserves access to recreation & adventure. Together, these ongoing gifts will help establish the Adventure Club Fund, a need-based resource designed to support residents who may not have the financial means or family resources to adventure on outings and experiences throughout the year. Some of these adventures involve extra staffing resources, fees and expenses and the Adventure Club Fund, will help offset adventure costs where other funding isn’t available.
