Growing Community Together: Homeward Bound Community Garden

How residents, volunteers, and community partners are cultivating connection through gardening.

Plant Day Marks the Start of a New Season

Spring is a season of growth, and at Homeward Bound, that growth extends far beyond the garden beds.
This month, residents, staff, volunteers, and community partners will gather at Plymouth House to celebrate Plant Day and kick off another exciting growing season at the Community Garden. The event brings together people from across our community with a shared goal: creating beautiful spaces, meaningful experiences, and opportunities for connection.

Community Partnerships Make Growth Possible

We’re grateful to welcome volunteers from Holmes Murphy who will spend the morning helping prepare and plant the garden alongside residents and staff.
We’re also thankful for our ongoing partnership with Emily from Darling Little Farms, who has spent the past several weeks working with our homes and staff to prepare seedlings and get ready for planting day.

Growing Something Bigger Than Produce

Together, these efforts help transform the garden into much more than a place where vegetables and flowers grow.
The Community Garden creates opportunities for residents to learn new skills, spend time outdoors, develop friendships, and experience the satisfaction of caring for something together. This year’s goal is ambitious: doubling our harvest while expanding opportunities for engagement throughout the growing season.
The garden belongs to all of us, and there are countless ways to get involved.

Ways You Can Get Involved

Whether you have an hour to pull weeds, a team looking for a volunteer project, expertise to share, or supplies to donate, your support helps keep the garden thriving.
No special experience is required. Just a willingness to lend a hand. Throughout the summer, volunteers can assist with watering, tending plants, harvesting produce, maintaining garden spaces, and spending time alongside residents.
Community members who would like to support the garden financially may also make a donation to Homeward Bound’s general operating fund or contribute supplies that help sustain the project throughout the season.

When people come together, amazing things grow. And sometimes, what grows isn’t just a garden. It’s community.
