MITS 2025: Recreation Reboot
September 10, 2025

For twenty years, Made in the Shade has been about more than just a 5K—it’s about creating meaningful moments.
Traditionally, each home has used its share of the money raised to support residents in ways big and small:
-
Attending community events
-
Catching a local sports game
-
Purchasing much-needed items for their homes
-
Sharing fun outings with peers
These aren’t just activities—they’re opportunities for joy, freedom, and connection.
Recreation Reboot: Our Boldest Step Yet
This year, we’re taking that joy a step further with Recreation Reboot, our biggest recreation initiative to date. With your help, we can make it possible for more residents to experience the Twin Cities in meaningful ways.
Here’s what Recreation Reboot means:
More Trips & Outings
From festivals and inclusive programs to sports games and cultural events, more doors will be open.
Increased Access to Adaptive Activities
Community-based and adaptive activities ensure everyone has the chance to participate fully.
Spontaneous Fun
Because sometimes joy doesn’t need a plan—our residents deserve it just because.
To support the increase of outings and very prevalent accessibility needs of every single one of our residents, the most important fundraising goal of our recreation reboot is
A Brand-New Recreation Bus
A dedicated vehicle, fit to accommodate at least 4 individuals (including wheelchairs and other specialized medical equipment), to help residents access more community experiences across the Twin Cities.

Celebrating Progress Together
With just 10 days to go, we’re thrilled to share that we’ve already raised $58,000 for the 20th Annual Made in the Shade 5K.
A very special thank you to
The Abbott Family
And many other generous sponsors and donors who are helping us chip away at our Recreation Bus goal.
So far, $46,000 has already been raised for the Recreation Reboot initiative—an incredible start!
Every Gift Matters
No matter the size, every donation makes a difference. Each dollar fuels opportunities for individuals to experience joy, build meaningful connections, and enjoy the freedom of choosing how they spend their time—just like anyone else.
Together, we can make the Recreation Reboot a reality. Together, we can create moments that matter.
