Homeward Bound, a trusted nonprofit supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, is seeking a compassionate and forward-thinking Director of Nursing (RN) to champion clinical excellence and lead transformative health initiatives.

Your Mission

As Director of Nursing, you will:

  • Drive quality assurance and best-practice nursing care through robust systems, audits, and outcome-focused metrics.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a strong nursing team—Assistant Director of Nursing, Nurse Supervisors, Nurse Case Managers, and floor Nurses—fostering accountability, integrity, and growth.
  • Implement nursing training and development programs that build clinical skills, reinforce standards, and empower continuous learning.
  • Oversee compliance with state and federal regulations (DHS, CMS, ICF/245D) while fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Promote holistic health by developing integrated wellness programs, including:
    • Nutrition support and healthy menu planning in partnership with residential teams.
    • Physical activity and recreation initiatives that promote movement, joy, and community engagement.
    • Collaboration with interdisciplinary staff to implement wellness routines, sensory stimulation, and seasonal health priorities.
  •  Partner with the Director of Program & Operations and Director of Quality & Innovation to ensure nursing supports align with the individualized goals and community inclusion of those we serve.

Qualifications

  • Active Minnesota RN license (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field (or 8+ years of RN experience); Master’s preferred
  • At least 3 years of senior-level nursing leadership experience, ideally in disability services or long-term care
  • Proven experience building and managing quality improvement programs
  • Strong background in nurse development, coaching, and performance management
  • Passion for holistic wellness, including physical, emotional, and social health
  • Knowledge of state licensing, ICF/245D standards, HIPAA, and person-centered care
  • Excellent communication, team leadership, and adaptability
  • Valid MN driver’s license and DHS background clearance
