Employee of the Month – November 2023

Sam Ozangar was selected as Homeward Bound’s November Employee of the Month for his excellent care for the people he supports!

Kadijat, Operations Administrator, told us “Sam consistently goes above and beyond in all aspects of his work.  He possess an innate ability to anticipate the needs of others and has a willingness to extend a helping hand.  Sam assists with appointments, helps with grocery shopping, and takes people on outings.  Not only does Sam’s helpfulness greatly contribute to the efficiency and smooth functioning of our team, but it also creates a positive and uplifting work environment.  His selflessness and willingness to assist both staff and the people we support is genuinely inspiring”.

One of Sam’s favorite things to do with the people he supports is to get out of the house and do fun activities.  Some of the places he likes to go to are the mall, Music in the Park, and the movie theater.  He also likes to ensure the people he supports are involved in all the activities of the day.

Sam started at Homeward Bound almost 27 years ago.  He had been working in a factory environment and was not getting any fulfillment from it so he started working in a nursing home.  From there, he found HBI.  It was closer to his home and he liked the people he got to work with.

Sam’s advice to anyone new to working with people with disabilities is that you will not know everything right away.  “You must immerse yourself to see how far you can go in benefitting people”.

Thank you, Sam!

Sam received a $1000 bonus and is a candidate for the 2023 Employee of the Year Award!

Homeward Bound’s Employee of the Month Program started in January 2023 by popular demand from staff who shared ideas and concerns with HBI management at town hall meetings in Fall 2022.  The selection process is done via blind voting to ensure that the winner is selected only for the exceptional life-enriching care they provide to people.
