Employee of the Month – May

Delsa Cindtron-Piazza was selected as Homeward Bound’s May Employee of the Month for her excellent care for and support of the people who call Brooklyn Park home!

Nicole, Operations Administrator, told us that “Delsa is one of a kind; she is Wonder Women in disguise!  Staff members go to her with questions and ask for help and she is always willing to help them.  Even when she is busy, she will stop what she is doing and help…always with a smile on her face”.  While Delsa isn’t in a routine direct care position, when the need arises, she with assist anyone who needs help without hesitation.  She treats everyone like a family member.  In the mornings, one of the ladies enjoys visiting with Delsa and listening to music.  While doing this, Delsa is able to multitask and watches each individual go out the door to their day program.  She ensures they have everything they should on the back of their wheelchairs.

At Brooklyn Park, Delsa keeps everything running smoothly.  She makes sure everyone is taken care of and that the employees have what they need to do their best work. When it’s time for everyone to leave for work, she verifies everyone has their correct lunch and lunch bag and double checks everyone is securely in their places. To show staff appreciation, on Mother’s Day, she ordered food for everyone working that day.  She is able to put a smile on people’s faces and people know that she cares and appreciates them.

Delsa got into this field early on.  As a Girl Scout, her troop worked with people with disabilities and she loved it.  Delsa joined Homeward Bound in October of 2005.  She told us through all the years she’s worked with people with disabilities, they have always given her so much love and compassion.  She wants to give them the best care and compassion that she can. Both the people supported and the staff are like her family and she cares deeply for everyone at Brooklyn Park. Her advice to anyone new to working with people with disabilities is, “You have to have compassion and understanding in your heart to make your life and their lives better.  You must love them.  You must have empathy. They will make your life better and your heart rich”.

Thank you, Delsa!

Delsa received a $1000 bonus and is a candidate for the 2023 Employee of the Year Award!

Homeward Bound’s Employee of the Month Program started in January 2023 by popular demand from staff who shared ideas and concerns with HBI management at town hall meetings in Fall 2022.  The selection process is done via blind voting to ensure that the winner is selected only for the exceptional life-enriching care they provide to people.
