World Health Day 2025: Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Future
Every year on April 7, we recognize World Health Day, a global observance led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to highlight urgent health challenges and inspire collective action.
The 2025 theme — “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Future” — emphasizes the vital connection between mothers and newborns. This year’s campaign sheds light on how early healthcare experiences shape long-term outcomes and underscores the need for accessible, high-quality care from the very start of life.
The WHO calls on governments, health systems, and communities to prioritize maternal and newborn health as a key step toward achieving health equity and sustainability across the globe.
Why it matters:
- Every two minutes, a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth.
- Almost 2 million babies are stillborn each year, many preventable with proper care.
- Access to quality maternal and newborn healthcare remains uneven across and within countries.
By improving healthcare services, supporting families, and advocating for policy changes, we can ensure every child has the chance to thrive — and every mother is supported through one of life’s most vulnerable journeys.

Explore Business Standard Magazine’s guide to 5 simple ways to improve your health today — because global change starts with individual choices.
1) Keep Your Diet Nutritious – Give your body a range of fresh fruits, vegetables, entire grains, and lean proteins to fuel it. To promote general health and lifespan, cut back on processed foods, sugary snacks, and harmful fats.
2) Maintain Your Physical Activity Level – Include at least half an hour of exercise each day, such as yoga, jogging, or walking. Frequent exercise improves mental health, increases metabolism, and strengthens the heart.
3) Prioritize Restful Sleep – To improve cognitive performance, boost immunity, and preserve emotional equilibrium, aim for 7 to 9 hours of good sleep every night. Having a regular sleep routine boosts vitality and general health.
4) Handle Stress and Mental Health – To lower stress and promote emotional resilience, engage in mindfulness exercises, meditation, or enjoyable hobbies. Happiness and relaxation are promoted by spending time in nature or with loved ones.
5) Keep Yourself Hydrated and Steer Clear of Bad Habits – To stay hydrated and help your body rid itself of toxins, make sure you drink enough water each day. Steer clear of bad habits like smoking and binge drinking that might impair your health in the long run.
Together, we can create a future that begins with health and hope.
