Employee of the Month – March 2023

Shawanda Williams was selected as Homeward Bound’s March Employee of the Month for her excellent care for and support of The Fabulous Fountain Four!
Scott Noland, Operations Administrator, told us that Shawanda always has a positive attitude. She has fun and jokes around with everyone at Fountain house and knows them like her own family. One evening, Scott was there while she was making dinner. He watched her take the empty spaghetti box, tear off the top and bottom, turn it into a telescope, and hand it to Kari. Kari was all smiles and laughs while she looked through her new telescope.
Recently, there was an issue with Metro Mobility, which was going to affect Laurie and Amy’s ability to get to their jobs. Without pause, Shawanda let Scott know she was going to drive them to their day program. Shawanda said, “There is no reason they can’t still get to work”.
Shawanda also maintains the supplies and medications The Fabulous Four need and places orders when appropriate.
Shawanda joined Homeward Bound in August of 1997. She had just moved to Minnesota from Chicago and a friend, who was working at HBI at the time told her to
apply. This was her first job working with people with disabilities and it was a great fit for her because she loves to take care of people. Shawanda started out at Jersey house and after three years, she transferred to Fountain Lane where she has been ever since. She loves being with the ladies. They have so much fun and laugh all the time.

Shawanda received a $1000 bonus and is a candidate for the 2023 Employee of the Year Award!
Homeward Bound’s Employee of the Month Program started in January 2023 by popular demand from staff who shared ideas and concerns with HBI management at town hall meetings in Fall 2022. The selection process is done via blind voting to ensure that the winner is selected only for the exceptional life-enriching care they provide to people.
